My goal is to provide ‘entertainment’ – Alpa Mehta, Owner of Events Company, No Bakwaas
Alpa Mehta has done it all in a career spanning 15-16 years – she started her career in marketing and sales, she’s been one of the pillars in channel launches, been the brain behind many award shows, and has handled popular celebrities starting from Shah Rukh Khan to Hrithik Roshan’s international events with great aplomb, and has also been a well-known wedding planner.
Alpa now owns her own company along with close friend Aradhana Sharma, known as No Bakwaas. The company handles major events in and outside India. And the future goal for the company is to produce non-fiction shows of high caliber, and also be a big name in the event management business.
Here’s Alpa Mehta in conversation with Tellychakkar.com for the ‘Behind The Lens’ section wherein she goes down.. memory lane.
How did you start your journey in the industry…
I started my career with Zee TV, and was one of the key members in the launch of Zee Cinema. I started way back in the year 1994, and specialized in network, sales and events. I was with Zee TV for seven years, post which I shifted to USA. In the year 2000, I got back with an idea of film making. But soon, I joined Morani’s Cineyug and worked as the Creative Head over there for 12 years. In this phase of my career, I handled all the big events. Any event you name, and we conceptualized it. I have handled events like the Zee Cine Awards, Screen Awards, Star Parivaar Awards and many more.
Tell us about your company – No Bakwaas…
Yes, as the name aptly suggests, we believe in complete creativity, and our goal is to provide creative entertainment in the work we do. I have started this company along with my close friend Aradhana Sharma. Aradhana has been in the industry for 12-15 years, and has worked on many reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Nach Baliye, Dus Ka Dum etc. We set up the company seven months back, and are the ‘Creative Content Shop’ for many a events.
Which was your company’s first assignment?
Our first event was a huge one in terms of its popularity and name. We handled the Kaun Banega Crorepati Live event which happened for the first time in Surat and Raipur. As for our first international event, we handled Diwali at Time Square.
Also, we recently worked on Big Entertainment Awards, and the Happy New Year event for Zee TV, Dil Se Naache Indiawaale. We have handled all the events held by Balaji, whether it be the recent Valentine’s event on Star Plus or the about-to-come TV and Fashion Awards.
So what is your goal in life?
Well, it is to provide ‘entertainment’ of course!! I am very passionate towards my work, and always ready to accept various challenges and provide the ‘difference’ in every event of ours. I am more of an events person, and enjoy my work to the fullest.
Tell us about your career ‘highs’…
I have travelled a lot, in fact everywhere in the world when I worked with Cineyug’s for 12 years. I have managed all the international shows of Shah Rukh Khan. I have been behind the world tours, Temptations, Broadway, and have also managed the shows of Hrithik Roshan.
How is it to associate and work with channels and production houses for events?
It feels good to be developing new ideas for events. We have been closely working with all the major channels, and production houses like Balaji Telefilms, Synergy Adlabs, Esselvision and many more.
Tell us about yourself as a wedding planner…
Oh, under Cineyug, I have managed all the star weddings, be it the Shahs, Mittals, Videocon, Agarwal etc. We have organized many ‘sangeet functions’ abroad. To top it all, we organized the seven day lavish Paris wedding of Lakshmi Mittal’s niece.
So what are the future plans for No Bakwaas?
As I said earlier, it is to provide ‘wholesome entertainment’…. We plan to work on non-fiction shows in addition to working on our events.
