Kunal Kumar talks about his short film, Holding Back
Kunal Kumar better known as Balu of Guttur Gu is very excited about his short film on cancer called Holding Back also starring Seema Biswas and Anant Mahadevan. It traces the last journey of a cancer patient and how his mother deals with it.
This sensitive film produced by Shiela Sandhu touches a deeper cord in your heart when you come to know that it is based on true incident. The narrative brings out the love between mother-son and father-son. “
Talking on the same, Kunal says, “Although I make you laugh (currently seen in Fakebook with Kavita) on screen in real life I am very deep as a person. But that does mean that I mop around. As my character in the film directed by Wilson Louis (Horror film Kaalo fame, also directing coming episode of & TV’s Darr Sab Ko Lagta Hai) knowing that he is facing certain death, still tries to live normally. ”
When asked about his funda about the big C, he says, “There are certain auras in body which fade out and you develop cancer or other illnesses. Here I have a different take on things. We humans are just not body but also soul. And a disease like cancer just corrodes away our body and not your inner self which lives on forever .”
“Having said that, I don’t discount the trauma and the suffering any terminally ill- patient and his/her family endure. I have not seen anyone personally die from cancer. But I know a family where one lady had been in comatose for eight years. Her daughter was growing up seeing her mom lie still.”
Kunal further adds that he is also doing a Hindi film, Laxman Rekha with Mona Singh and Vinay Pathak where he plays an out and out negative character. The only funda of life to live each day to its fullest. You never know when death strikes. I had a friend who collapsed while on the tread mill. He was just 35 years old, you can imagine what must have happened to his family?”
Wish you great luck for your family?
